Belinda Fabris

I am a sculptural artist using ceramics/clay as my primary medium. My pieces look to challenge the values and perceptions of the viewer. I look to the familiar to draw attention to what lies deeper in the consciousness of the observer. I hope my work reflects and questions the changes in social, political and spiritual values in our society. I am inspired by the philosophical teachings of Joseph Campbell regarding myths and legends and the thoughts of Noam Chomsky. Contemporary artists who have inspired and influenced me are, Antony Gormley, Grayson Perry, Yinka Shonibare, Banksy, Paul Dibble, Bronwyn Cornish, Hilary Kerrod, Brendan Adams, Chuck Joseph and Anne Hudson.

Liz Harrop

Originally from Surrey (UK) and raised by two very creative parents, I have always had a love of bespoke, usable art primarily involving fabric, lots of texture and ceramics. Having first been introduced to ceramics in my teenage years, I am now finding my way back to the wonderfully tactile medium of clay. I met Belinda in 2013 when we lived in the property next door to her and the ceramics studio. In time I met Caro and couldn’t resist but become absorbed into their energy and love of creating art that is both fun and inspiring.I want my ceramics to not only be beautiful to look at, but also accessible, usable and sometimes just a little bit quirky. The majority of my work is inspired by native NZ birds although some of my latest pieces of work are moving from practical pieces to more conceptual. I enjoy hand painting and try to challenge myself with interesting colours, textures and forms.

Caro Beecroft

I am fortunate to be a Waiheke Island based ceramicist. Initially I worked exclusively with porcelain clay in the late seventies, but a lack of space and family commitments took over. After a break of over thirty years my love of ceramics was rekindled when I met Belinda. She was keen to start sculpting in clay and together we started a new ceramic journey. We had a lot of fun sourcing all the equipment we needed to set up a studio using mainly second hand items found locally. My work is now very much inspired by the natural world around me. There is so much hectic superficiality in our modern society I choose to try and concentrate and delight in the colourful splendour of nature here on Waiheke. In 2018 I graduated from Otago Polytechnic with a Diploma in Ceramic Arts. Now I work mainly with Porcelain or Stoneware clay and enjoy making my own slips and glazes.

Our story

It all began five years ago with two friends starting their ceramics journey together. With many exhibitions under their belts and a diploma in ceramic art, the two friends became successful ceramic artists. Their journey of exploration and fun attracted other artists to join the collective whom now all exhibit within the walls and gardens of Studio 309.
